Life with two Labs

Our four legged kids are both one years old now, Moose turned one in January and Tank will be two in ten days! Its crazy how much our life has changed with our doggies, they are basically our kids and we love them like crazy...although they may drive us crazy sometimes.

For those that have kids, your understanding of this post will be on a totally different level because unlike us, we can crate our dogs and leave. This is probably case in point why we only have dogs...we are not ready to cart around a kid yet! Have you ever thought how much time you spend on your dogs?!?! I just finished a thirty minute walk with them and they will either go to the bark park or on another walk later in the day. That's at least one hour alone, if just walks, for exercise. You do not want to know what my dogs look like though without exercise, they are literally bouncing off the couches! So needless to say this is an hour and a half well spent!

We are frequent visitors of the bark park, going 4-5 times a week. If you have never been to a bark park it is quiet the scene. Tons of dogs, lots of people, balls flying, drool hanging, dogs chasing each other this way and that and the occasional fight between two or more dogs. Luckily, Tank is all about fetching at the bark park and Moose is either playing with his friends or staring at the small dogs, so we don't have to worry about them getting into a fight.

While in Alabama and now here in Albuquerque, we have a group of us that go to the bark park together at least once a week and then we all go on our own time either after work or for a mid-day break. There are four of us and eight of them and just recently, we all took a picture together since one of us is moving and the rest of us will be parting ways in the summer.

My friends and their dogs (L-->R): Nikki with Duke and Ty, Becca with Iris and Daisy, Mel with Pumpkin and Belle, and then of course me with Moose and Tank.

Also, for all of my favorite pet owners, if you have not heard of Jeffers Pet Supply in Dothan, Alabama, you are missing out! This is a family owned pet store located just thirty minutes from Fort Rucker where we were for initial helicopter training. Not only does it have a rockin name, my maiden name, but it also has grrrreat prices. The same toys you buy your dogs at Petsmart are cheaper here at Jeffers. Luckily, they do ship and more times than not you can find a $5 off coupon somewhere online that you think has no way of working but you type in the Promotional Code and it works! A week ago, we got our shipment of new toys in for the boys! Talk about Dog Heaven...

Although the blue tug toy in the middle was destroyed within thirty minutes of giving it to the boys, we are okay with it because that toy cost a grand total of one dollar! The boys are loving their new toys and look forward to others being introduced...we do not give them they toys all at once. All in all, go check our Jeffers Pet Supply, you won't be sorry and neither will your dogs!

Lastly, our boys do not get scraps off our plate or people food on a regular day. Their are some treats we are okay giving them, pieces of banana, the rest of an apple after we have eaten it, carrots, and last but not least Peanut Butter! They go crazy for Peanut Butter. For the longest time, Tank could not have PB because of what it did to him after but we have found that with age, his digestive system has grown stronger. Now we keep two empty PB cans around and they will get a few licks every now and then.
They will do anything...

for Peanut Butter!!

As for now, my dogs are taking their mid-morning nap and I shall go get some things done so my spring break turns out productive! Happy St. Patrick's Day...don't forget to wear your green! I am off to start cooking our Green Day Meal, Beer Braised Irish Stew with Colcannon...wish me luck!
