The Hippie Hole

Last weekend, nine of us ventured north to the Jemez mountains to do a five mile hike up the mountain to a geothermal hot spring, the San Antonio Hot Springs. New Mexico has tons of hot springs all over the state and the one that we visited is often referred to as the Hippie Hole. Luckily, we only saw two "hippies" but they were nice and welcomed our company...all nine of us. This particular hot spring flows out of a steep hillside, the water comes out of the ground at about 129 degrees Fahrenheit and flows to the five pools below. The one we relaxed in was about 105 degrees. It was a great end to our five mile trek through ankle deep snow and after an hour or so of soaking, we started our trek down the mountain before it got too dark. Luckily, we were with the "military men" who had just finished SERE this past summer (surviving in the woods) and I knew we would be fine if we got lost or trapped. :)
