The zoo was a lot bigger than we expected! We learned a lot, quenched our thirst with an Icee (Yum!), and actually broke a sweat. We are currently in the windy season here, and it is not fun. Sunday night we had gusts of over 40 mph and if we have a day under 10 mph it is a miracle. Luckily, Saturday was one of those miracle days (calm winds and hot) and we headed to the ABQ Bio Park to see the animals.
This snake made me want to crawl out of my skin! It was huge. It's skin was cool because it was iridescent and here it is crammed in this little room on top of the tree. His head is on the right and there is another snake down below. It was cool but we were definitely ready to move on!
We saw two crocodiles and I was finally able to learn the difference in the crocodiles and the alligators! This is a crocodile because you can see its teeth when its mouth is closed and an alligator has a much thinner nose and you are unable to see its teeth when its mouth is closed.
This golden eagle had a sign on her cage that explained that she is laying on her egg and will not move and I am pretty sure it also stated that she had not had a mate in years...hmm! Needless to say, she got up off her egg and came to say hi!
The polar bears were quite the entertainment! This polar bear (on top) was pacing back and forth while the other polar bear (on bottom) was playing in the water and having the time of his life! We definitely wanted to jump in the water to cool off...he made it look so enjoyable. One interesting fact we read about was that female polar bears hibernate when they are pregnant, but before they go into their cave they must gain around 400lbs!!
These Orangutans were also highly entertaining! This baby was swinging from pole to pole, climbing on his parents, and playing with the box. The mom and dad were just chilling and then when the "Chewbacca type" grandfather woke up from his nap both mom and dad got up so he could choose where he wanted to go! We learned that Orangutans have a life expectancy of 59 years...not 60 but 59. 
We also got to see elephants, camels, tigers, cheetahs, and many more fascinating animals! Overall, it was a very enjoyable day and we were glad to see all the animals!
